I returned to Madison County Lake today, fishing from 6:30AM till about 1:00PM. I had one of the most difficult days in several years on the water. The Crappie were still there on isolated brush in 10 to 25 feet of water. Todays best bait was a 1/16 oz White Marabou jig. The challenge of course was trying to keep my kayak position in the high winds. The Crappie were biting very light, basically on the drop the Crappie would pick up the jig. Easy to see your line go slack normally, not so easy in 20MPH winds. I’d also get over the brush, jig up and down a couple times and then be blown out of position by the winds.
I returned a dozen or so short fish and kept 21. I think I would have limited if I’d stayed till dark, but I was just to tired of fighting the wind. The north 2/3 of the lake was white capping and I even had a few waves go over the side. The water was a little warmed then yesterday at 43 degrees and still very clear.
