Okay arrived at Washunga dark thirty dawn on Wed morning all we could see was ice.. from the ramp past the bridge. Decided to try Sarge ramp.
Ramp mostly clear but ice still around launched headed for some spots that have been good to us. Mostly covered in ice. Four other boats our fishing before us. We tried to fish but ice chunks kept bumping line not much good. Saw a boat go across at Washunga okay we got a path so loaded up and went to Washunga. Got on North side of bridge three boats fishing two anchored up on on trolling motor we got on and marked fish on out fav brush pile. Used jig, minnows, spoons, nibbles , kibbles a bits, prayer, cussing just about everything not much we caught 4 keepers that were all b/w 11 and 12, 6 dinks. that was it. One boat that was anchored was catching a few fish every now and then, he was dead sticking a double minnow rig straight down just above the brush. No one else caught more than 5. Lowest number of boats I have ever seen at Washunga, except when there was a storm with tornadoes going on
Okay so we mostly struck out Wed, Thu we are going to kill them we have a plan. On water at Washunga before day light. First on the water except for some duck hunters(those people are crazy getting up that early) Okay got on the spot the guy was catching them Wed. three in three hours. The three were just 10 inches. Used minnow and every thing in the boat. Nothing zip. Okay we heard that a boat caught 30 on river channel West of Sarge ramp okay ran down there. Hit know piles and found new piles all covered with a thick blanket of shade. Could not make out the pile with all the shad, just every where. If a crappie was down there all he had to do was open its mouth and a shad would swim in. shad were 15 feet down to bottom solid carpet. we managed to catch 6 more small keepers and a dozen shorts. Decide to run back up to Washunga since it was where we launched. The boat the was anchored catching fish Wed morning there also anchored, he said he there was and hour when he caught 18 but since then he caught 3. This was since 0800 and now 1500. He said he had not had a bite for hour and a half. So we decided we had enough for a fish supper and headed out.
Again at Washunga shad extremely thick made it difficult to find your brush piles even with downscan they just blotted out your screen. I know the crappie are there but just not willing to bite with that much lunch in their faces.
Awesome report! Thanks!
Don't Move a Mussel!!Clean, Drain and Dry EVERY TIME, ON EVERY BODY OF WATER!!
I hear ya dog. Tough bite. We were down there Friday. Lots of shad at Washunga. Had to tickle their noses to get the crappie to bite. The water had a little to much color for me. But you don't know if you don't go...
