I seen that! It was good seeing you again Friday!
Hobo, I sent you a PM.
I'm looking to fish Lochloosa with my boys for specks for the first time. Any particular part of the lake better than others? Probably gonna put my boat in a Lochloosa Harbor Fish Camp and get a few dozen minnows.
What depth did they seem to be sitting at?
Duh, depth depends on weather -
cold - cloudy -heavy overcast = they might be 1 -2 ft down in morning, as
sun clears trees on east side - they go down.
Sunny - warm - water temp above 60 - they will be 2 -4 in am - as sun clears
trees on east side they will start down... mid afternoon by 2 - 3 they might be
down to 9 - 10 ft close to bottom.
If you are catching little ones - your too deep..............
I've never actually fished for crappie before. I've caught a few while bass fishing before but never set out to just catch crappie so i'm a newbie to this.
Dan - first things first: Did anyone welcome you aboard this web site when you
last year in August ?
If - not Welcome to Crappie.Com - glad to have you with us and asking questions
about Crappie Fishing..
Lochloosa is a lake that you can either long -line or spider rig......it is an excellant
learning fishery..............Most fish caught there will be in the 10 inch plus size.
which is good. Where you live - there are lakes all around you that produce good
fishing.
The people at Lochloosa Harbor are generaly very helpful in putting on the correct
things to help you get started...
Keep us posted on how things are going on your various trips ....
Stay with Lochloosa until you feel comfortable - Newman & Sante Fe are a little
tougher to handle ... Will find bigger fish in Newman, but fewer fish - do not want
you to lose drive to catch. Sante-fe is more of a long-ling lake do to being spring
fed - and is not stained as much as other lakes in area.
Any specific qestions - you could pm me and i will try and help

My plan on this trip is to use minnows with a slip bobber on a micro spinning real with a 6'6" rod. I've had two micro rod/reel combos for years I've never used til now. I plan on gaining some experience on Lochloosa first then try my luck at places like Lake Weir, St Johns, Rodman, Ocklawaha River and maybe some of the forest lakes I can get my bass boat on.
Is there any length or bag limit on crappie?
