Default Lake Murray Trip and Afternoon Squirrel Hunt

Fished yesterday morning till 11 AM. Tightlined jigs and minnows and caught an assortment of perch, striper, and crappie. Crappie were slow, but the perch kept us occupied. Water temp has dropped to 48 and the bait has bunched up. Fish were caught in 12-16 FOW fishing 14 foot down. No color jig shined. Kept 4 crappie, 1 striper, and 10 perch. Water has muddied up from last weeks trip. I guess it was the rain on the bare banks...

When I got home, my youngest brother in law (12) was chasing squirrels around the house. He inspired me to take an afternoon trip to see if I could round up enough for supper. Went to a location where I deer hunted last week of season and saw a bunch of the bushy tailed rascals. As always, a .22 in my hands seemed to keep them hidden better than toting a deer rifle LOL. I found 3 that didn't stay hidden quite as well as the others and a 4th that got away. Those squirrels are smart animals and you got to be on your "A" game with the rifle to bring them out the tree!! Seemed like I could use a brush up on my shooting skills...

They fried up nice though and I had a lot of fun. Brought back some very fond memories of my childhood hunting with my dad!

Hooking up every chance I get!

Thanks for posting some times I feel like frying up some of the ones I got running around the house. Hope to try Murray next week if the wind lays down and it's not to cold.

Glad you had a great Saturday Derek! By telling us your squirrel hunting trip made me think of when I was younger hunting for squirrels and taking them to my grandmother. She would cook the squirrels and gravy with homemade biscuits! Man was it good!! Thanks for reminding me of that and thanks for the report and pics.

The last few squirrels I shot was with my .223. They hit the ground already cleaned (atleast the parts I could find). HA!

Thanks for the fishing report and the hunting report. You have now succeeded in giving me a hankering for some squirrel & dumplings. Look out bushy tails!
