Thread: Toledo Bend Tips

Caught a good mess of crappie in Bayou Seippe last week. Shiner and jigs 14 ft deep in 16 ft of water. Haven't been on the river in a while.

I was told the coop was not a good spot till the water temp. is 50 degrees or below

just let us all know exactly what your doing if you catch......if not catching, fix it then let us know.....jk. we have proved as a group that these fish can be hard to catch when it is cold.

When the coop is right you can get on the bank edge early in the morning and then as the day moves on fish the "other" edge (lake side) fishing with shiners 1 or 2 cranks off the bottom and as soon as you feel the "slight" hit, REEL them up! I had a buddy that kept waiting for them to take off with the bait and me and his son were tearing them up while he wasn't catching. It is hard to feel a good thump that deep in the water. I caught some on jigs fishing the same way too. I fish either 1/6 or 1/8 oz jigs and catch on both. Hope this helps some.

Thanks for all the advice. it sounds like the water temp is good. The problem right now is the high dirty water the coop has been slow. I may give it a try this weekend on Sunday afternoon.

I actually just came back yesterday form Toledo. We were supposed to fish it yesterday morning. We had the trip planned for 4 weeks earlier to fish on that day. Naturally the weather did not cooperate. I understand they we did not get much rain in South La., but over there, we had some really bad cells come thru yesterday morning and ,unfortunately, had to cancel the trip and come back. We ended up fishing in Ville Platte at Millers Lake, which is not a good lake to fish in 15-20 mph winds. We fished for 3 hours without a bite. Not good.
