Size: 126.1 KBHello Everybody, I am not really new to Crappie dot com but just moved here from MO two years ago so just starting to get back into crappie fishing again. I am very impressed with the size slabs I have gotten at Lake Harney. Coming from MO we used to catch them during the spawn in about 1-4 ft of water on the banks around April and May typically but the lakes there are covered in trees and stumps. The structure is different here I just wanted to know if anyone could explain how the spawn works here in Florida. Last time I was out at Harney a few weeks ago we caught 18 drifting along the contour lines, marking spots and then re-run the drifts but narrow down the spots. Not sure if I should expect to catch them on the banks once they spawn or not. I also have not seen many eggs in the females and those that I have seen are not near ready. My name is Shawn and I appreciate any and all help. Feel free to say hello if your out or need anything on the water I have a Ranger Cayman flats boat with a 200 Yamaha.

Welcome. They typically start in February. Surprised you haven't seen any with eggs. I have released several females because they were heavy laden with eggs. They will spawn in as deep a water as the temp and sun will allow. They like the pads, reeds and wood to spawn on.

That's a beautiful Ranger you've got there....Harney's been so good for them 11"-12" eating fish, you'll find no reason to keep anything under 10" the more familiar you get fishing the lake, hope to spot you sometime & say Hello...
