Thread: Casting for perch

I catch a lot of perch using the Bitsy Pond Minnow. My favorite color is Tiger. It is green with black stripes. I fish it on ultra light with 6# test mono...
Usually always have a rod rigged with one when fishing perch...

Small crank baits can be great for crappie. I saw a guy catching them on small white spinnerbaits when I was barely catching. But I didn't have a small spinnerbait.

I have never used a small crankbait, but have caught many crappie while casting for them using 4 different methods. 1. Cast using my favorite color jigs tied directly to the end of my line. 2. Cast using my favorite color jigs tied directly to my line with a slip cork set 1-2 feet above the jig depending upon how shallow the fish are. 3. Cast using my favorite color jig on a small spinner. It is sort of like casting a spinner bait for bass, except much smaller bait. 4. Cast using a horse-head type of jig that has the spinner hanging underneath it. I have found that for me these methods work best when I cast out and reel in as slow as possible.

With all of folks on here catching crappie on big crankbaits, maybe I should tie one of them on and get out in the middle of the lake and cast a big crankbait for crappie using my ultralight and 6lb line.

Db4d x's 2 with the fly fishing. Use a small black gnat hooked to a #0 straight shaft hildabrant spinner and a small piece of pork rind trimmed like a fish tail "v". If you practice Andrews, you will perfect the side arm cast to lay the fly under overhanging trees and the bait sinks slow. On a good fly rod it's a hoot to snag sac au lait and it can be addictive. I've also caught speckled trout on the fly rod and that's great sport too.

I have some friends that cast Road Runners with ultra lites all the time and do well. I fish that some and also cast tine rattle traps.

I stopped casting because it was a lot more relaxing to just stroll troll around covering water.....cranks is just going faster which fits my impatience.
