Thats a hard question to answer ( loseing bites).....I would just use the length that can be easier used in your boat.

I've always fished with 14' trolling rods, but that was out of my bigger boat. Since I've rigged my 16' war eagle up for spyder rigging off the front the 14' rods are just kind of a hassle to store and transport in a smaller boat. They are up in my trolling motor and just in the way. What's everyone's thoughts on switching to 12' rods? I know longer is better, but would I lose that many bites with a 12' vs a 14'?

I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

In my opinion you want see a difference unless you fishing clear shallow water . I use 14 ft. rods in a 16 ft . boat butI fish alone mainly .
I fish mainly 14s out of my 17ft Triton...Used to fish 12s, and loved them...you may lose a few bites in shallow water, but I would go with what seems easiest for you...Do you have a rod transport rack..They make a big difference
I don't think the 12s will hurt you very often at all, like G said use what works for your boat best. I have a set of 12 foot Pinnacles if you want to try them to get a good idea which way to go without having to buy a set to try, let me know.
Fished with them a long time before going to 14's, caught lots of fish on them. Sure are easier to handle in smaller boat.

I started out with 12' rods, Grizzly jig has a great price for 4 Wally Marshall's on the back page of their catalog. I bought them (4) and bought a second set later in the year. After getting use to them I thought I needed to buy more expensive rods so I bought a set of Pro staff, to be honest I use the wally's more than the PS except for pulling cranks, they are a little soft for pulling. I also bought the Quantum "lefty" reels $24.99 each, Grizzly has and have been very happy with them so far.
good luck,
Ray

There are different style rod racks. Find or make the one that suits you and fits your need.
