Big/West Sandy 12/19-20 fishing report
Well I had a good trip just not able to fish where I wanted to. Saturday I launched out of Britten Ford at 6:30 and went out to the power lines, wind at that point wasn't to bad but about an hour into the day the breeze started and before long I was fighting wind and 1 - 2 foot swells, didn't catch any when I pulled up and went to West Sandy. 10 minutes into the new location I started catching fish, lots and lots of fish, but they were almost all short. Saturday I caught 102 fish total with 12 being keepers, Sunday the wind shifted so I had to fish the opposite shore and caught 48 with 4 keepers. The shorts were cookie cutter 8 - 9 inch fish, 2017 should be a big year. I spider rigged jigs with glow green/chart, and pearl firecracker in Mid south tubes and crappie magnets in Popsicle. Most productive water was 10 to 12 fow keeping my jigs at 10 feet. Water was slightly stained and ranged from 46 to 50 degrees. With jigs and weight I had 3/4 oz. worth and was moving .2 mph, the bite seemed better moving a little faster rather than running to slow. One thing I noticed is the fish were either 12" plus or 9" minus, seems like we are missing a hatch year of fish. Hoping to get back in January again.
Merry Christmas to all
