    Default Used sonar question

What is the difference in the 500,600, and 700 humminbird sonars as the screens seem to be the same size and they all have some that are side image down image and have the 2 d and color. I am hoping everyone gets the newer sonars and I can buy a used unit after Christmas(real cheap) when they sell their older units. But I don't know what or how to know how to know the better deals to get. The real big screen sonars will probably be still out of my price range. They are getting to be so many of these sonars and a lot are also discontinued. Does anyone know a rule of thumb for buying a used unit or how to know the newer dated and better units? There needs to be a Kelley Blue Book for fishing sonars.

Here is difference in screen sizes ...

    In the HB units ...:

    "c" means color display ...
"i" means internal GPS antenna ...
    "Combo" means mapping ...
    "DI" means dedicated DI ...
"SI" means Side Imaging with computer generated "DI from SI" technology (core unit)
"SI" in ONIX means Side Imaging with dedicate DI imaging ...

    All HB units have 2d ... :
*2d in the "sonar only" units and in the SI units is 200kHz/83kHz ...
*2d in the "DI" units is 200kHz/455kHz ...
*2d in the 800/900/1100 series "DI" units can also operate at 200kHz/83kHz (with the optional XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T) ...

Looks like 600 series, 700 series, and Helix 5 is the same square inches. The only difference is 700 series is a square and helix 5 and 600 series is a rectangle shape but all three has the same square inch screens, am I right? How much difference does the 480v x 800h make over the 640v x 640h make as far as viewing the small 5" screens? Another question is if all the Helix models 5,7,9 etc. has the same transducers in the same models and the same internal formats in the same models why does it cost about $100.00 and more per extra screen inch size?

The wide shaped screens give better viewing perspective for SI ...because the "history"'advances down the screen ...

The square or taller screens give better viewing perspective for 2d or DI ...because the "history advances across the screen ...

Cost of display is a major factor is manufacturing ... Bigger displays just cost more ...

There's also Ethernet hardware, 2 SD Card slots, 3 preset view buttons, and AutoChart live programming in the HELIX 9 ...
