Default Lake Murray Perch Massacre 12/19/15

Been a few weeks since I've been on a Perch Jerk so I figured my first day of Christmas vacation would be a good day to try them again. So, I rounded up my Dad and Uncle and we headed out this morning in the frigid temperatures. It was 26 at the house before we left and we were greeted with a stiff breeze at the lake. Wind chill had to be in the teens on the water, but the fish kept us warm.

We concentrated our efforts in 30 FOW and the first school of fish we marked were hungry. We caught fish pretty consistently all morning long and called it quits shortly after noon when the cooler got full.

We cleaned 91 perch and total fish caught was well over 100. It was an outstanding morning of fishing! Water temp was 57 and the best bait was minnows. We caught a few on spoons but the minnow rods kept us too busy to do any serious bumping with spoons.

Good job Derrick. 30 FOW was the magic depth for us Wednesday, at Shull Island. Like the idiots we are, we tried to fish there Friday and got blown all over the lake. Should have gone to Clouds Creek to escape the wind, but I was not sure they were up that far.
Did you fish up in your end or did you come down to the lake?

Ray, we were down the lake around Dreher Island. I've heard of some perch being caught up Little River by the tightliners and I heard one report of a nice mess caught on spoons in clouds. I'm headed that way Monday in search of some Crappie before the rain muddies everything back up. Then I'll probably back chasing perch and deer till New Years...

My Uncle is a die hard Gamecock fan!! He's been a season ticket holder for as long as I can remember. Funny thing is I was a big enough influence on his two kids that they both went to Clemson!! Glad ole cuz was able to make a positive difference in their lives Hahahaha

Congratulations on a great catch Derrick! Over a 100! Y'all had a really good day! And to clean 91 that's a lot of work. How many minnow rods were y'all using? You had to have gone through a lot of minnows. Thanks for the report and pics. Good Luck Monday!!

We fish one minnow rod a person. If the action is slow we'll use a bumping rod too. But today the bumping rods didn't get much use. I think we went through about 10 dozen minnows.
