The boat size match to sock should be imprinted on box or bag of sock.
    example: 48" sock for 18 - 21 ft boat

Could possibly go on line locate drift socks - they should help you

    I use a 48" sock - but have a 21.5 "big O" boat.

Also depends on what you're doing. I was fishing with Shu yesterday, pulling cranks in a stiff wind. I put out a drift sock, and with the wind I could not get the boat up to speed. I like to pull cranks at about 1.3 to 1.6. With wind and trolling motor all I could muster was .8. I'd have to measure the drift sock but it is not a large one. It seemed to stop the boat dead. I replace it with a bucket and it worked great.

Update - I measured it, only 32 inches across. Boats a 16 ft Bass Tracker Pro-V16 (the older and less wide version) with Semi-V

you can sometimes control speed by the amount of rope released to sock,
or by pulling in you sock opeing rope - can make release hole larger thereby,
    alowing boat to increase speed
I personally throw chain...........found it to be much faster and easier to
    control speed

put a rope on lifting ring - cut a few holes in bottom of bucket, put out rear of
boat -12 - 15 ft, it will fill with water and slow forward motion of boat

I fish out of a 16ft bass tracker and just got a 30inch drift sock. How many feet of line would you guys suggest I put on it?

Wasn't their a line that came with sock? so when deploy it opens and closes
by pulling or opening bag ?
I usually use a 50' 1/2" rope - but you do not have deploy sock more than
15 - 30 ft behind boat. tie off to center pedstal in back of boat

I found putting my 15 lb anchors out on each side works well. they are not Danforth so they don't dig in
