    For the 2d in the 898 ...:

*Press Menu twice to get into the Main Menu System ...
*Cursor over to the Sonar tab ...
*Cursor down to "Beam Frequency" - set this to 200kHz/83kHz ...
*Cursor down in the Sonar tab to "Switchfire" - set this Max mode ...
*Exit out of the Main Menu System ...
*While viewing the 2d view - Press Menu 1 time to open the Xpress menu ...
*Cursor down to "Jigging Mode" - turn this ON ...
*Cursor up in the Xpress menu to Sensitivity - set this to an acceptable amount of clutter in the water column ...

Note: Remember to turn "Jigging Mode" off when viewing DI/SI ... And if the Sonar Xpress menu does not list "Jigging Mode", you will need to update your unit to the latest software ...

*Press Menu twice to get into the Main Menu System ...
*Cursor over to the Sonar tab ...

Rickie. one question, why do you need to turn jigging mode off while in DI/SI mode? I have a 798 CI HD and i have been leaving jigging mode on since I updated. Might be why I haven't picked up any fish on SI lately.

Jigging mode was a recent software update to address the HB 2d complaint of "over pixelation" (HB SI units only) ...

When HB released the 360 software (6.570) ...they also decided to make a change in the unit ping sequence to enhance imaging (DI/SI) ...

This was accomplished by having the unit transmit the SI signal more often in the ping sequence by decreasing the amount of 2d transmit pings ...

This decreased the amount of 2d info being obtained to plot into the 2d image ...

To keep the 2d image scrolling correctly (with less 2d data) the unit must copy vertical rows of pixels (double pixeling) as it is plotting the vertical rows on the 2d image ...

This causes a "blocky" look to the 2d image ... Which many 2d users did not like ...

Instead of abandoning the new ping sequence (with enhanced SI pinging) ... HB added a user selectable "Jigging Mode" which tells the transmitters to revert the ping sequence back to the ping sequence before 6.570 ...

    So.....
"Jigging Mode On" is better 2d (with lessened SI pinging) ...
"Jigging Mode Off" is better SI (with lessened 2d pinging) ...

You may not see the difference in the SI image ... But you will see the difference in the 2d image ...

Thanks Rickie, For some unknown reason I was under the impression that when you switched to SI/DI the unit automatically adjusted the ping rate back to normal. Going out tomorrow and will make sure i have it turned off while in SI or DI. Thanks again

Oh geeze, I have been doing the same thing, leaving jigging mode on all the time. I have gotten some really good side imaging screen shots even with it like that.
