    Default Wednesday redemption

After getting almost skunked Friday, I went out yesterday(Wed 16th) with buddy Jeff in his boat. He bought an HDS7 touch screen like mine from Brian at BBG Marine and wanted to try it out. We put in at Koon's Landing (Murray) like we did for our get together a couple of weeks ago. It was so foggy you could not see 20 feet ahead so Jeff used his GPS to just idle out to 30 FOW where he had marked fish earlier in the week. We just drifted there (running light on!!) and jigged Flexit spoons on the bottom. We started picking up good size perch right away. I also had the 7.9 ozs. of left over minnow from last Friday so I put one rod out with minnows.
We continued to catch perch with the spoons out fishing the minnows which was hard to figure, but sometimes jig out fish minnow for crappie. We never got out of sight of the landing, sorry Ofish and Big Dawg. (they rode all over the lake looking for us last time out).
After catching several nice perch on my jigging rod I had a hit that darn neared ripped the rod out of my hand. Jeff had caught and released a Striper of about 18" a few minutes earlier, so I thought that is what I had, but this dude had an attitude and was bigger than any 18' Striper. Fortunately I had just put new braided line of my President so I knew if I was careful I should be able to land him. He ripped off several runs and I tightened the drag as much as I dared. Finally I got him to the top and Jeff netted what turned out to be a Blue(I think) Cat that went around 15 lbs. on my scale.
Later I got a Channel Cat around maybe 2 lbs. We did not keep any fish but we sure threw a lot back.
Jeff was experimenting with different color spoons just to try them out. He put on a red and black one and must have caught a dozen small stipers around 6-8 inches. Don't know what it was but they sure like that color. I never got the first one on my blue spoon, but the cats liked it.
So now Harry has talked me into going with him tomorrow. Will be interesting to see what effect this change of weather has on the fish.

This was a perch with very poor aim. Got him right between the eyes.

Dawg, anytime you and Ofish want to come down I will meet you and we can fish together wherever we can find fish biting. If you liked the food at Price's BBQ have to come on Thursday or Friday. Still can't figure none of you fellas liking Rutabagas?? Thought all country folks liked them, I do. Bring Remus too, I'll try not to drown him this time.

Sounds like a fun day of pulling them in. I would think someone told the fish that John was at that part of the lake so the fish came there to be safe!!!
Thanks for the report and pictures and congrats on the day.

Great report and pics Ray! Sounds like y'all found a mix of fish! We were down at Murray couple weeks ago fishing in The Striped Bass Challenge tourney. I heard several teams comment how thick the lake was with white perch. Some threw nets on them and pulled up hundreds of small perch. They sure are prolific! But they are fun and pretty good on the table. Stay on them!
