Basspro has vise for 20 bucks it's fine for beginners
I have every color imaginable but I use the same 4 or 5 color patterns year after year

I remember going out to a canal off the spillway near Norco, LA and I threw a white 2 1/2 inch hair jig 2 feet under a float that I got from the Cabalas bargain bin and caught 3 nice bass and 4 sacs in about 30 minutes. I couldn't find any Not Head hair jigs around therefore I tried tying my own. I've been addicted to it since. LOL They are outstanding in the spring.

Lots of folks like the black lake hair jigs that the Honey Hole sells, grey and chartreuse is killer. Some members on here sell some nice jigs.
Skip's Web page is "thump it jigs". Another member "Meatgetter jigs" has some good stuff as well, he doesn't have a Web page but if you pm him he'll send a nice laminated catalog of what he sells and would probably recommend some of his hot sellers as well.

I started tying my own jigs a while back, $75 might get you started but I'm in it that much MANY times over. Jig heads, powder paint, holographic eyes, vice, thread, kip tail, hackle, marabou, tinsel, flashibou, body wrap I could go on and on. Thinking about taking up pouring my own plastic next. Don't listen to me though cause I'm a tackleholic and do it to the excess...

Having said that nothing beats catching on your own jigs... 😊

The hair jigs I prefer are the ones I tie myself. I started tying about 6 months ago and love to tie them. Like the other fellows said; it is relaxing and rewarding, especially when you get to catch the crappie on a jig you tied. However, as others have also pointed out it can get a little expensive because you think you have to have every color of hair and every size of jig and every color of paint.

I like to tie them and give them away. Andrews, if you will PM me your mailing address I will tie you a few of my favorites and send them to you. No strings attached and I do NOT sell them so don't even ask. LOL. When you tie them for money it becomes a job and I tie just for the therapy. LOL.
The Lord is good. His mercy and love endures forever.
