    Default Lake Blackshear Report 12/12/2015

Justfish invited me to fish with him at Lake Blackshear today. Since I don't have a boat for the next couple of weeks, I jumped at the opportunity to go with him. We have fished the same lakes at the same time and shared info over the years but today was the first time we have fished together...Great guy and fisherman.
We got to the boat landing at 7:15 and off we went just a little ways from the landing before we dropped the trolling motor in the water and started fishing. The water temp was 58 and the air temp was 53 with no wind. Beautiful morning!!!

The bite wasn't bad but all we could catch was dinks...And I mean dinks!!! Ya know you gotta be good to catch fish this small!!

And we caught some even smaller than that!

We ended up with about 15 decent keepers by 3:00 and we called it quits. We caught Black Crappie, a few "Wipers", I mean Stripers, White Crappie and even a Blacknose Crappie.

Most all of the fish we caught were deep. We fished channel ledges, flats and some in the channel. The fish were pretty scattered but we marked a lot of fish. Darker colors seemed to work best the first part of the day but lighter colors seemed to work best after lunch. Air temp with no winds made it a little warm by 12:00 but a slight breeze out of the south was refreshing at times. The bite was light and you had to be watching the lines very closely. I don't remember catching any aggressive fish at all. Another boat was also fishing with us and they stayed until dark keeping 40 something and catching a ton of dinks also. It sure beat the heck out of staying at home today!!!

Glad we finally got to fish together Tim. You are right, the weather was perfect and the fish size not so much so. That was probably the smallest grouping of fish that I have ever caught at Blackshear. At least we found a few adults during the day. What was amazing to me was the bite was uniform for three different areas of the lake we were all fishing. Glad one of the other boats toughed it out and waited on the late bite. Always know you are welcome in my boat anytime.
