    Default Fishing trip round up

Well we put another great trip in the books. It was a bit chilly but I never was cold, probably due to the fact that I looked like the Michelin Man with all the clothes I had on. Richard on the other hand came dressed for a balmy day on the water. He is a tougher dude than me. He and Don managed a mixed bag of fish and had a good time.
Uncle Remus and I tried the stripers with some live shad, but did not have any luck. I ran over to a spot that had held fish last winter and we found the perch along with a couple of cats and two stripers that hit our crappie minnows. We could not stretch them to meet the 21" size limit, but the one Remus caught came pretty close.
I must apologize for my part in getting John and Ron lost. Next time I promise I will not let them out of my sight. Also many thanks to Gerald Cromer for getting both of my Yamaha motors started. I now know the secret to cold starts. It is can of either and I will have one in my boat form now on and I suspect Steve will also.
Here is a couple of pictures from the day. The live well shot is especially for Tim and Butch knowing it is their favorite.

Good to hear y'all had a good time. The livewell looks full, catching fish will make it feel warmer than it really is With an old motor I have to keep a can of ether in my boat.

Mine is a 1999 2 stroke Yamaha. I don't know why some engines are so hard to cold start. I had a 1974 35HP Johnson and it never failed to start within 15 seconds of cranking, even if it had been sitting for a month or two. Seems to me if they figured this out in the 70s we should be able to still do it.
Once this one starts the first time it cranks right up from then on, but boy, cold starts are a pain. Mr. Cromer send me some info on this particular engine, which uses a fuel enrichment valve instead of a manual choke, but apparently mine is not working properly.

ether really ain't too good for 2 stroke outboard motor it burns too hot and has no oil in it and could burn a hole in a piston !!! here is what I do when having a cold start issue !!! I use an old windex spray bottle filled with 40:1 premix and that works great. hope this helps !!!

We did find the cell tower Uncle Remus kept referring to in front of that Island and the red roof house. It's on Hwy 77 north of Columbia. LOL

Had fun seeing the lake and will come back if I had an invite. Maybe next time I can look in front of boat instead of looking out the back. I'm no good at directions in reverse.
I think ofishlbizness and I can do better next time or at least we'll know better. Good seeing everyone and the food was good to. I agree with you Ray the chicken is better! Thanks for a good time fishing and funning around.

My E rude is hard starting anytime it's below 60 degrees. It has the enrichment valve also. I have figure out a throttle placement that gets it started( knock wood). I also restart the day before and let it run a few minute on the muffs. Like ray's once it runs the first time it's good fro the trip. I wish they'd go back to a choke we all know how those work

Ray, even my BBQ lighters wouldn't fire off. After it got warm they worked really good. butane..my 4 STROKE started Ok after I got gas to it. The bulb was hard as a rock. That was the first thing I did when I got home was to replace it with a new soft one.

strmwalker it was just a light sniff in the area of the intake, That's the same about using it on a diesel engine also, they don't like starting fluid either.. Where the air intake is on Ray's and Steve's I'm not sure a stray bottle would get enought fumes in to help...... Steve's has the old fashion choke and I checked and it was working so I'm not sure why it didn't fire off, we both use 100 octane airplane fuel on our engines. that fuel is stable for a year. I use it in all of my home tooles also, never any carb problems.
