    Default Lake World Perch Contest

Well Lake World had there perch contest last saturday(11/28) on Lake Murray. So me and a buddy had decided to fish in it. We met up at JC's around 7:00am got bait and had my protein breakfast sandwich(egg, bacon and cheese sandwich) along with my ice tea. We left from there and went straight to the landing. It was a very nice morning, the water looked almost like glass. We got the lines in the water around 8:15-8:30. It was about 15min before the 1st perch but then we started to catch a few.We fished until about 12:30 and the weigh in was at 1:30pm. So we packed up and headed to the landing. By the time we got back to the landing and put the boat on the trailer it was 1:05! So I told my buddy to take the cooler and head to Lake World. I left the landing at 1:20 called my buddy shortly after that to see if he made it in time and he told me "yes". He also told me he thought we had 3rd place. I just knew he was picking so when I pulled into Lake World he came up with a grin on his face and I'm like, well? He said we got 3rd place. Hey I know it's just a perch contest but for 2 guys that doesn't know that many spots to fish on the lake and took 3rd place, we were happy. We ended up catching 23 perch which you weigh in your biggest 20 fish and we caught 3 stripers(14 to 16in). Also to top it off my buddy caught his 1st striper ever that day. So needless to say we had a good day that is until the phone started to ring and it's my wife, "When are you coming home?". Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

Congrats on a great finish! I think white perch tournaments are a great idea. White perch offer some fine eating, and they are a load of fun to catch. No limits either!!

What were the weights for the top spots? Lake Murray has been growing them bigger and bigger each and every year! Someone told me that it took 30 lbs to win a 20 fish perch weighin a month or so ago. That's some big ole WP.

CB it was 30 lbs and some change in that weighin a month ago Richard said. This one 1st place had 16lbs and change. Then 2nd and 3rd had 13lbs plus change.

Good job Mark. Based on our trip Friday I think they are starting to bunch up in the creeks. We caught about 35 in Bear Creek and only had a couple of small ones. Most were pretty decent but I have yet to catch the 1.5 to 2 lb. perch that I see mentioned every now and then. I have caught just a few that were a pound or so. Most are 1/2 to 3/4 lbs.
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
