    Default The journey back to "Mystery lake" report

    It was dark, very dark at 5:30am as we drove the long highway......
    It was cold, very cold for Florida boys, the 67 degree breeze cutting through the night air as we finally took the east turn at the only light in the one redlight town and headed over the long lonely two lane road towards Mystery lake.
    A long road some would say, others, not so much, for us, the hopes of finally being able to get to this lake after days and days of being put off by windy conditions and mysterious delays not unlike being set upon by demons striving to prevent us from fulfilling our destiny of fishing this lake today.

    Eventually we can see, over the horizon, the river that will take us to Mystery lake appears out of the night. We say a silent prayer as we slowly pull in and prepare the boat for our day on the water, hoping that the wind gods will find somewhere else to play this day as, this day, we claim for ourselves and ours alone.

    It was dark, very dark as slowly, way back to the far distant East the first vestiges of dawn begin to manifest in the slightest way, for us, it means we must make haste, we've got a long run across the lake to arrive at the spot we hope will hold our Eldorado, our long sought after field-of-dreams, where a man can find true fulfillment and dreams-complete in catching the elusive and beautiful black crappie, some have a yellow tint to them, we call those "Golden Hue" crappie.

    It was cold, very cold for Florida boys, as we follow the long winding river in the pre-dawn darkness, the 67 degree breeze cutting through the dawn air, enveloping our fragile bodies in it's embrace.

    Finally, the mysterious lake spreads out before us in all it's glory, beautiful beyond compare, a lake like no other some say. It is here in the swamps and woodlands that surround this place that they say the legend of the Skunk Ape originated. I can attest to times when I was out here fishing that I too have seen strange looking beings.

    We finally completed our run and enjoy a beautiful morning, and on into the mid day .................

    Largest = 14.5"
    Total brought home = 28

    Was absolutely gorgeous all day (till the rain ran us off) ....
    Have a nice day,
    Danny

    Real good post Danny, well written. You're getting pretty good at holding up those magnum size stringers of fish. Good job!

    Good Lawd!!That story spooked me and I like reading mysteries. I won't be able to sleep all night thinking about a day like that.
    But to be clear, the Phantom strikes, and he is entered into the mystery contest. BG's if you will, sir.

    Best report of the Season! Great storyline, but weak climax....kind of new from the start how it would end. Well done sir!
