I traveled a lot. Tenn, ga, sc.. I catch most of my own bait. Shad are extremely dirty when. I live in Greenville so I always have a drive to lake. If the bait are cured all I use is the scale catcher when I'm actually fishing. Good bait are clean and don't loose scales.

Shad are hard to keep, the Vest tank has always done well if you can keep the water temp down and the anomia down
I've got a setup at home. 500gall and 350gall. Both filter thru a 50gallon scale catcher sump tank. Then pumped to a 50gallon biofilter. I'll post some pics. ASAP. Couple days. Lol.

So REELDAWG when you catch bait how much do you catch? How much will your setup at home hold? Thanks
I've had as many as 250 shad in the 500gall tank. All caught in one trip. 6"-8" shad. Pretty much maxed it out. I don't really fish with herring but I could probably hold 45 dozen in that tank. Keep them till they get eat or die of starvation. That takes at least a month. Longer in the winter.
