Default Some Big Head Deep Water Jigs

These are some jigs made from the Do-It Live Bait Jig mold I have had forever. They are 1/4oz with the short shank #1 hook. I have a friend who fishes these here in the winter when the crappie are down around 20' or so and he does very well with them. I made these for him. He fishes them vertically. The junebug / chartreuse ones are his current favorite color.

I use 1/4 oz jigs a lot in summer here! Anytime they get deep I use that weight and usually just a #4 Sickle. I do have some 1/8 with #2's and I think some 1/4's with maybe #1, but would have to actually go look to make sure, LOL!

    nice jigs!

I tied some I use for OL' MARBLE EYES with a bigger hook. I stumbled onto some 2/0 short shank hooks a few years ago and they came in 5 different hook colors...red,bronze,black chrome, chartruese, and a copper orange...So far I don't think the hook color has made that much difference but it does add a touch of color to the jig. Tell you friend to find him a stump or a brush pile at that depth and try them around it..AND HANG ON...LOL..they will work in the summertime to if you can keep OL' MARBLE EYES OFF THEM....lol...

I use some like that with brushguards when it was deep and cold. Drdore and I would have some good days with the ones he tied for me in a gray ghost pattern. Mine were 1/4 #2 and seldom missed.

These jigs were poured and painted bright orange and bright yellow about 20 years ago when I was fishing for sauger below the dams in the winter back then. I do not do that anymore. I had about a 100 of them so I put them in a jar with lacquer thinner and removed the old vinyl paint and then cut the collar off this a pair of side cutters. Powder painted and tied away. That is why these have the #571 #1 hook in them. If I cast any in the future I will use a #4 sickle that will fit in this mold.
