I had planned on Saturday being my fishing day this weekend which was a poor choice considering it rained most of the day. Once it cleared up I decided to give it a shot. I arrived to find the lake deserted (just like I like it). Ended up getting in the water around 2:30.
Figured I would try the areas they have been schooled up in past weeks first. I drove over what appeared to be excellent fish behind the island in front of the ramp but have never had luck over there so decided to leave them for another day. The bite was a bit off which given a front was passing through isn't surprising. Luckily the bigger fish still seemed to be biting though the numbers were off. Ended up with 6 for my efforts, biggest 1.54lbs. Most came on 1/16 jig with a hot grub. Caught one on a jigging spoon.
The highlight of the day came when I decided to forsake pulling the boat out with the sun up to make a few casts on the first bridge on my way back. It occured to me that a roadrunner might work well with the low light and runoff and was rewarded with my second citation of the year. The pics could have been better and in my haste to get her back in the water i didnt get a weight but it was well over 16". It went for the bottom when hooked and if it wasnt for the thumping I would have thought it was a bass. This is how every trip should end.
