    Default Lake Higgins Report

I promised myself that I was going to fish more this year but have been unable to keep the promise. Nice day yesterday, so I decided to dust off the boat. Fished Lake Higgins which is a small Greensboro watershed lake. Caught 97 crappie long line trolling with jigs. Crappie were small which is the standard for this lake. Largest were 10 inches. They bit all styles of jigs and colors. Caught fish from 12 ft to 22 ft.. Water temp 63 degrees. Kept a few for a couple of meals. Good day on the water.

I fished Lake Townsend a lot 15-20 years ago. Caught a lot of hybrids and crappie. Both went away when the white perch showed up. Talked to the lake warden last year and he advised both species had made a come back. I hope to revisit the lake in the future.

I live less than a mile from the ramp at Higgons but, never fish there because of size. There are some nice fish in there but pretty few and far in between. Fished there a couple of years ago and caught a bunch of dinks. Looked on CDC that night and a guy caught a two pounder bass fishing. Were you around the second bridge (Lewiston Road)?

I fished from the first bridge to the dam. I have caught a few one pound fish in the past but could not find one on this day. Usually in the Spring someone will catch a two pound fish but they are rare.

Those fish sure have big eyes! If the body would grow to the size of the eyes, they would all weigh 2 lbs.
