Thread: Crappie Fishing at Guntersville

Slabby I assume you are taking about the first bridge you come to where parking is limited to the feed mill entrance.I have not of all the bridges fished there .Where do you usually fishunder it.Between the train bridge and the big bridge ot under the big bridge?? I see people ignore the dont fish on the train trussel bridge all the time .They are usually fishing minnows.I heard a few years back some one had to jump to the water to keep a train from getting them HA

So would those green fishing lights be good or bad at night? The videos I've seen looks like it makes big bait balls come around it

I have one of the strong ones made by a guy over in Ga. It certainly does work! You would be amazed! Plus, I have the green (on one side) & ultra violet blue LED light (on the other side) on the rub rail of my boat. They attract a world of minnows!! But, getting the fish to bite is another thing!
It takes about 30 mins for the lights to attract. The submersible green LED is kinda heavy & I put it on a stout pole to get it out away from the boat. It'll work ok just hanging from the side, but the bait ball will be right in your way or underneath the boat. I have found that fishing the edge of the bait ball catches more fish.
And, you have to play with jig colors, i.e., keeping swapping up, until you find the color & depth they like. But once you do, GAME ON!

Night fishing has been off for me for several years. I usually have those clear minnows show up to my lights immediately. I hear they are like the ribeye steaks of minnows to the fish, but they're pretty swift. Bait balls of mainly gizzard shad usually show up within 30 minutes and yes, fishing the edges of the lights is best. But for the past few years, I, and nobody around me at bridges do that great this time of year in the dark. I'll usually test without lights first because sometimes they're right there and ready to go without the light aid. Plus, you can get too many minnows and attract a lot of stripe and skipjacks when the bait is really heavy.
