Cray I use the Do-it #0 stainless steel insert. ifish has posted the link to it in a post below. Just takes a little bit of filing to get it to fit well.

[QUOTE=skiptomylu;3068384]Really interesting way yo do that insert, I like that idea. Not sure I care about the weedless part much, but that is just me a weedless jigs for Crappie, however I do like that split ring attachment. I don't get into enough snags with my Roadrunners/Pony heads to worry about the weedless part, but that's just me. Now bass fishing is a whole different matter for me.
Skip we have a lot of cedar trees in our lake and they can eat a lot of jigs sometimes. I fish my weedless jigs about 50% of the time. I also remove all but six of the weedguard strands with a fingernail clipper before I fish it. Using the whole weedguard is weedless and some times fishless. With only 6 guards I do not miss many strikes and can get through some pretty thick cover if I keep my retrieve very slow. By slow I mean one reel handle revolution every 4 seconds or so.

Oh man them cedar trees have so many snag limbs. I don't fish any ceder trees here, just usually willow and what ever else we can find including some Bamboo. Then we have made some out of PVC that is different, but need to try it as I have not and it's been in 2 years now, LOL! Most all my Roadrunner/Pony head fishing is Spring or fall long line trolling with one rod in hand. So when we get hung up it's usually just a foot or so under the water and we can just pop it off usually. So for sure what I use them for and how is very different.

    Love the insert though!

Skip most of my road runner fishing is in 12' to 20' most of the year. April is about the only time I fish really shallow and then I like to fish the jig and fixed bobber technique. Something about that bobber getting pulled under that still is fun for me.

Road runners work well trolling or under cork, especially during fall.

Dang you fish them deep! I have fished them in 20' of water in late spring, but they are still kind of up in the water and I still go slow fishing them using the 1/32 Oz! Started the fall thing back in the really late 1970's trolling the 1/32 Oz Roadrunners over Hydrilla and that was 14' water depth with very deep to either side. Most of my spring Feb. through May is like 7' water, but that May probably have gone to 10' or even more in late May. The Hydrilla makes things so different here. I am also a sucker for a bobber style fishing and a few years ago I learned just how good kip tail jigs could be, LOL! I had tied them for others, but never used one my self, but a guy ask me if I could make some like he had and couldn't get any more. So shorten this story, got a guy to make a mold for their type head and he sent me 2 so I painted them and ties the 2 jigs. I got board tying one day and tied one on and went down to my bank. It was early March and just time they come in temp wise. So I took my wimpiest rod and put on a bobber. I pitched it just off the bank maybe 2 feet and stood there for just a short bit and started to pull it out to move and when I did there was a flash under the water so I dropped it right back in. 15 minutes later I had 3 crappie I dragged out due to the wimpy rod and the smallest was 14", LOL! Needless to say I have not knocked kip tail since!

trypman1 I have done some with a cork, but most of my trolling is holding my rod and going from .4 to .8 MPH and doing my best to stay on a contour depth and dodging stumps as best I can too, LOL!

Skip- My favorite way is to spin cast. I also jig them thur a slip cork set at the correct depth. They can't stand it, the same as jigging but away from boat. Thanks for your reply.

Tom, I believe those are the best weedless ponies I've ever seen. You've worked out all the kinks to make it easy to tie. Excellent work my friend.

Thank you Skeetbum. To me there is nothing more enjoyable than catching a fish on a lure that I made on a fishing rod that I built. Bought my first crappie jig mold way back in the early sixties and have been tying them off and on since then.
