    Default New State Record

Not sure if anyone saw this yet or not but I always find it cool when a state record is broken. Below came from 9&10 news out of Cadillac:

"A more than 100 year old state record has been broken.

The Michigan DNR confirms a new state-record for smallmouth bass has been set.

The DNR says the record breaking fish was reeled in by Greg Gasiciel of Rhodes, Michigan, Sunday on Hubbard Lake in Alcona County.

The smallmouth bass was caught while Gasiciel was bait-casting with a green grub.

The new record-holder weighed 9.33 pounds and measured 24.50 inches.

The previous state record was set back in 1906. That smallmouth bass weighed 9.25 pounds and measured 27.25 inches long. It was caught by W.F. Shoemaker on Long Lake in Cheboygan County.

State records are recognized by weight only."

    What a smallmouth.

"D" its been a couple years since I been....but if you was to load your boat and head to Kentucky Lake right now and fish a big colorful spinnerbait and maybe a Yamamoto senko,or chartreuse or shad color variation shad rap or crankbait around main lake and secondary points, you should have no trouble catchin' a good one. I have even caught some good ones casting crappie jigs occasionally.

I'm not necessarily a bass fisherman, but I give credit where credit is due. That is one heck of a monster fish and deserving of some credit!
I couldn't imagine what that was like. I would have loved to been there just to share in the excitement.

Nice fish, I don't think the record will stand for long. The DNR has been finding more and more 9lbs+ smallies on their surveys around the piers. The ones in lake Michigan are feeding on the gobies and getting huge.

We have some big Smallies in the Au Sable River. We have caught some close to 5lbs. We don't target them, just accidental catching.
