If you're talking about trolling crank baits, I used to shove my rod tip in the water to keep the bass from jumping and shaking the bait loose. It's a lot harder for them to shake the bait if they're not on the surface. When they're underwater and try to shake it out, the viscosity of the water prevents the bait from slashing back and force like it does in air. If that doesn't work, get them on plane and reel them in as fast as you can.

But Bill Dance always let em jump two or three times. That's most of the fun catching em. LOL

the rod, line, lure and hook type all have a factor in it. And the techniques mentioned all help. You have to hand it to any fish that jumps to throw the lure, a born with it instinct for survival. Once in a while you just have to smile when they do it. Unless of course that fish was worth a $100,000 in some top level tournament.

That's exactly what I do on crank baits - reel them in as fast as you can. No slack in line.

Vet, I reel them in fast as I can. Don't give then a chance to jump until they in the livewell. Glad you catching some. I caught 5 keeper sac's and 5 throw backs Sunday from 2 to 5:30 out of Jack Millers.

Yes keep tip in water the higher the pole tip it the more the fish wants to jump. If you get one come the the top just crank him in fast and don't let him dive back down. That's when a 7:1:1 gear ration reel comes in to play
