The afternoon was just too pretty to pass up for a quick run down to a local lake. Good thing too because it was good fishing.
Beaverfork isn't exactly a crappie hotspot, nor is it a lake anyone can launch from without paying a fee at the city-owned ramps, but what was working might help others out on similar waters. Water temp was about 74 degrees and the lake was low. It's currently on drawdown and it's going to be tough from here on out to get a boat in the water from the launch. Luckily my kayak is no worry, but be warned if you go here: lots of shallow water extending out far from the banks.
1/16 white Roadrunner with chartreuse / white jig thrown right at the bank next to the weeds and jigged back in about 3-4' of water produced lots of fish. I only kept four similar to the one in my photo for a nice dinner and released the rest.
They were extremely shallow and striking hard - there was no mistaking each bite. Sometimes I didn't even get to jig, they were nailing it right as it hit the water in probably no more than 1.5 feet of water. I fished from about 4:30 until it got too dark to see, around 8 and the hottest time seemed to be starting around 7:15 - 7:30.
The city of Conway does maintain the boat launch and they charge a $5 launch fee. $50 if you're not from Faulkner county. When I arrived around 4 though there was no one at the gate, so you could just pay $5 to the fee machine to get to the launch.
Oh and it was incredibly windy. Just about impossible to hold a spot in my kayak, but I didn't have to do much stationary fishing. The bite was all over the exposed weeds and shoreline.

It sounds like you had a blast. I love that thump in shallow water.
Very nice indeed! They charge non-residents $50 every time they launch or for a season pass? If it is per launch, they do a great job keeping non-residents out.
Those are some good looking fish!
Great report. Thanks.

My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
