Reds are pretty much common up at Cescent past year or so.
Several guys caught Reds when FCC fished it in March this year.
Have to change up on tackle - 4 & 6 lb won't slow them down.
Thanks for sharing story Mike.

Just got a call from "Joe", an old friend I met on the river several years ago. Joe calls me about every other month or so to talk about bream fishing during the summer and specks during the season. He just told me the craziest story about a fishing trip he and a friend just took to Lake Crescent.
They had fished for a few hours and hadn't even had a hit when they decided to head to the middle of the lake. They had out 16 lines and after a short time ALL the poles started bending and things went flying. It took them about 15 minutes to sort out everything and straighten out the lines. They had broken tackle and reels from the hit laying all over the boat. When they finally got things sorted out they had four rods still in play. It took about another 15 minutes to land 4 big Red Fish, one of which weighed 7lbs. They had no idea that Reds were in Crescent and couldn't believe what had happened to them.
Hats off to Joe and Robert...that had to the thrill of a lifetime!!![]()

It is very interesting when you got all this light tackle out & a red hits it.
I have landed 2 personally in Crescent both were legal to keep but put em back.
This was the first redfish I had ever caught in my life.
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
They're just old drum. Not fittin to eat.

I think it is in the book Cross Creek by Marjorie Rawlings that they were catching redfish back in the 1930's. Somewhere in the St Johns corridor. Great book of early Florida for anyone interested.

I met a guy years back that was throwing a Rattletrap around the bomb circles and got a massive strike. Told his friend"This is no Bass". Said he saw a copper flash almost as long as his arm, it headed north and nothing he could do could even slow it down. Spooled him before they could get moving and popped the line. That had happened years before he told me and the excitement in his voice was still strong. I believe anything in the St. Johns system will have reds somewhere.
That said, I would have paid good money to watch you sort out all those rods. I bet it was a show.
