    Default Second boat

I have been wanting a second boat for a while now, the one I've had for about 10 years (19'Thompson I/O) sometimes is just too big for smaller lakes, and if its just me and my wife sometimes it's hard to get unloaded and loaded.
So after looking around for a smaller nice panfishing boat, I found this one (or rather my wife did) and I can't wait to use it. It's a 14'Sea King with trailer, came with a cover, Minn Kota 65 trolling motor, new tires and bearings, and 3 sliding fold down cushioned seats.
The best part is that I have had my grandfathers old Evinrude (which holds great sentimental value to me) for years, and now it has a permanent place instead of under my shop bench.

Great story and boat hope you give it lots of use. Remember that ol Rude no likey ethanol. I'd search for a station with good nonalcohol gas and still add Stabil.

And make sure you replace the water pump impeller before you try to run it. A cheap fix before and a very expensive fix after.
The impeller is rubber and after sitting for a while it will take a set and not pump enough water to keep the power head cool.

    Good advice!
There is a good Evinrude dealer close by and I figured that since it's been so long that Grandpas motor has been in storage that I would take it up to them and have it completely gone through. I'm hoping that when Im gone from this world my grandson will get to use it, or put it in a museum!

We have a lot of 9.9 restricted smaller lakes and you just really need a smaller vessel to fish them. I have an old 75 model Fisher Marine "water rover" crappie boat. It's on a tilt roller trailer and I can launch it in a small pond by just barely getting the wheels at the waters edge. I enjoy fishing it. I also have a fiberglass bass boat and a 16 ft Lowe Big John with a little customization. But got to keep the old rover around ...just used it today.Launched in it in my sons two acre pond and we put in some fish structure and fished a little.

I had a 6hp Evinrude it was my Father in laws and it was a fine little motor. Check the compression once and a while...they can have a head gasket leak and just won't run right. No brainer to replace the head gasket if it ever happens.

That's real close to one of the boats I owned at one time. Bought the boat cheap and did the fixes it needed, threw it in the back of the p/u and used a TM on the back. Then acquired a trailer that needed springs, once fixed they were a good pairing. Then stumbled onto a 6hp Johnson that completed the rig. That was the throw around boat for several years. I now have a bass boat and always find myself on Craigslist looking for a 16' jon with a 25hp. Like you say, just easier to use in some conditions. Have fun with the old girl, that's a sweet little rig. You also get to fish with granddad sitting on your shoulder, an added plus.

After putting in some flat plywood floors and rubber carpeted mats between the seats my wife and I decided to go try it out on a close lake. Until I get Gpa's motor done we will use the Minn Kota.

We didn't do too well fishing but the positive is my wife caught her first fish ever trolling a crappie jig and plastic, it was a 12 inch smallmouth bass which was released. Sorry no pic of the fish but I did get one of the catch of my lifetime!
