    Default Lake Chicot help needed.

Wife and I are planning on a trip to your beautiful state and thinking about hauling my boat to fish while staying a couple of days at Lake Chicot State Park.
Can anyone give me some info on crappie fishing this lake? Anything would help, never fished in LA before.
    Thanks in advance!
Please copy any info to my message box.
PS: will arrive on Oct 15th, leave on the 18th.

I can't help you with that lake. I have never fished it. I hear it is a beautiful lake but very hard to fish unless you are a local. I am sure there are other members on here that can help you more than I have. Sorry I wasn't more of a help.

Stay in the north camp ground the south one is for family with kids and has the play grounds and such. Put ya boat in at the north landing for the same reason. Use ya crappie knowledge and hunt the fish. Try anoung the big trees growing in the water its nice fishing cause its shady. Get a map of the lake try by and under the bridge. When you head south from the landing try the thick weed growing along the right side bank. The problem is fish has soooooo much habitat they hard to find but they move in bunches so usually if you catch 1 you catch more. You just have to hunt for them and when you find em flag it on ya GpS I aint been there in several years but given a few days a good fishermen can find them. The good news is its a beautiful lil lake and a good place to hunt for em.

Dapet knows that lake, maybe he'll tune in before long. You'll have to get your shiners in Ville Platte which isn't too far - the closest town. Not too far from there in the town of Washington is a restaurant called The Steamboat Warehouse. There they have what they call the Gangplank. Fresh made French bread sliced, topped with a ribeye, then covered with crawfish etouffee - this is serious! There's also several places in town, including an old two story high school, that has pretty cool antiques.

The new cabins are nice - on the water. Are you coming for the garden event I heard about? I remember Gene mentioning that, and I'm curious as well. Let us know if you have further questions.

Hi Bob, if all goes well I'll be there at the Bayou Gardener gathering. Haven't made plans yet as to if I will stay overnight or night but probably will. Randy you've any interest in joining in with a bunch of hicks to talk about gardening and anything else.If so you are welcome to join in. Of course you'll have to provide a pot of crawfish etoufee.

Wow, thanks for all the info! Yes, I am going to be there for the gardening group. We are just a bunch of old country boys that have a love for growing our own food and most of us also hunt and fish for the meat and pleasure of being out with Mother Nature! Everyone is welcome and here is a link to the info on the gathering.

The Bayou Gardener is Don and he is from the area around the lake. He does a lot of Utube videos teaching others how to grow a garden with as little effort as possible....and is a great guy too boot!
It's on Oct 17 at the pavillion on the lake with a pretty good mix of folks from all over the country but, mostly LA, TX, OK, MS area I think. This will be my first so I don't profess to know anything!
