Default Big Lake 9-21 & 9-25-15 Father son trip

My dad and I made a trip out to Big Lake on Monday afternoon to start the week off and then again on Friday to finish off the week. We caught a limit of shrimp and crabs on Monday and a limit of shrimp and 4 dozen crabs on Friday. Here are the pictures.
    Monday's catch

A couple of stingrays that we caught out there.

    Friday's catch

What a way to start and end a week. That's a nice looking catch for sure. I wish I had a place to go crabbing that would pay off like that. There is hardly and waterway left that isn't full of crab traps. The shrimp I can afford to buy at today's prices but crabs are off the charts. I've seen some go for $80 for 5 dozen. That's a dollar thirty per crab and that isn't select. My friend you've got a gold mine there. Enjoy it while you can.

Very nice! Also wondering what you do with the rays?

I kept the sting rays to clean b/c I heard they were good to eat. I did a quick you tube search on how to clean them and off to clean them I went. Well after cleaning both rays and not getting enough meat to fill up one hand, I will not be keeping any more unless they are at least double this size. Feel bad that I killed them for such little meat but be assured, next time they will go back in the water.

Gene, I can usually catch the crabs most of the year. The shrimp are the ones that I only catch for a few months out of the year. Next time you want to catch some crabs just let me know and we will see what we can do about that. We boiled over 300 the weekend that DocWaldo, Big John and Slab Hunter came down!

WOW! Shadow that is a great catch. Did those crab go for the blue/green/chartreuse jigs? Just kidding. My wife wishes I could catch shrimp like that. She loves them. Congratulations! By the way, what is the limit on the shrimp and the crabs?

Thanks Dwayne, I know the invitation is open. It's been a rough year for us and hard to find time to do much planning. With Linda's back now in good shape and I've been through the ringer but I'm feeling better now, maybe this coming year we can plan a weekend with y'all.
