Default Anybody fish coe spillways ?

Nieghbor and I went to Grenada saturday. Pretty much got blown off the lake. However, since this area is new to me we kinda did an auto/truck tour. We found ourselves at the spillway outlet channel. Folks were getting shad and fishing and catching catfish from what I saw. Looked like a fun time.

I tried to take notice of the rods and gear used. Most all were spinning reels mounted on various sizes of rods.

Anyone got some suggestions for a decent modestly priced combo to try this resource. Also weights, line and rigging info would be great.

    Thanks, ds

I fish barnett spillway for big stripers. I use a Tica TC 2. 2 piece TD. med. heavy action. We chunk up in the tail race with a weighted cork n about 2 feet of heavy leader with a 1/2 oz jig. Sho is fun catching those 8-15 lb stripers. Sea run and hybrids

I would start with a medium heavy rod combo of your choice with a slip float something big enough to support atleast 3/4 ounce of lead with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook suspended just above the bottom.

Wasted 2 buckets of minnows trying to catch crappie in the spillway at Sardis on our last camping trip. We caught a ton of throw backs/catfish 10" to 18" long.
Light tackle, 10' to 14' crappie rods.
