    Default Labor Day Fishing Report

A little late posting, but I did finally get to pull some jigs with a measure of success. I took a couple of friends out on Labor Day Monday morning and was somewhat shocked to see an empty boat ramp. It was probably 2 hrs before I saw the first angler other than us. Of course I took full advantage by telling my folks that I "spared no expense in reserving the entire lake just for us, and on a Holiday no less!"

Like Butch says, we went looking for bait, and when we found it, we found the fish. Blues and blacks seemed to produce best, although a number of colors got eaten. I can never seem to put together the crazy number days that Butch can, but we put 52 fish in the cooler which included 5 catfish and a largemouth bass, along with a fair number of throwbacks...Oh yes, one more thing, as we were reeling in the lines at the trip's end, we had a hard strike and a long battle ensued. I felt sure it was a big catfish, maybe even a prized flathead, but when it emerged....well, I was speechless! I took a picture to prove it was real, but below you will see an excellent example of the extremely rare "golden crappie" ....all it needs is a massive pile of hush puppies alongside!!

William I know who ever caught the carp had a great time pulling it in. Those fish can put on a good pull!! I know it was nice having the lake to yourselves after a long summer of being covered up on weekends and sounds like everyone have good catches. Thanks for the report. I guess you have to have a chance to win a prize before posting a report!

Yes, that carp was about all a tiny ultralight and six lb line could handle. I can't wait to see what these upcoming nights in the 50's will do for the bite.

Oh, Ronnie, did there happen to be a contest?... I may have read something about that somewhere....In that case, let's avoid waiting to the last minute and get all those goodies on the way over here where they can do the most good!

William, I was fishing docks many years ago at Wylie and I flipped under one and got a hit that almost took the rod out of my hand. I was using an ultralight with 4# test mono. The fish ran out the end of the dock between two piers and I had my rod stuck under the dock to keep the line from breaking on the post. I climbed on the dock while my buddy handed me the rod so I could fish it between the two piers and I got back in the boat.(It was a run down abandoned dock on a vacant lot or I would not have gotten out on it)
The fish had run off a good bit of line and was out in the middle of Big Allsion. My buddy pointed to a house where a party was going on and they were all watching us chase the fish around the lake.
After what seemed like forever, the fish finally came up and my buddy netted a 19# carp for me. He was foul hooked in the tail with the 1/32 oz. Hal Fly I was using. Sure was a lot of work and excitement for a darned old bugle mouth bass.
