Right now I am running 2' seperation. I would much prefer 3' or 4' but I gotta work with what I have. Alone I can run 8 with 3' seperation but 2 people drops me to 2' seperation and 13 sets out.

When long-ling i would 8 would keep you very busy
What is the stagger ratio (distance from boat per rod) and length of various
rods? Just curious

Curious as to distance from rod tip to jig - have to have them varied quite a lot
to keep from tangling ?
Beieve you have said in past that you use a lot of bandits (floating crankbaits)
virus lipless cranks - or do you use comb of single - double jigs sets with the
cranks?
Like your set up Specklocker - I went online to Tite-loc - they only show models
with 4 rod holders vs the 5 -6 that you have.
Were these special order through Tite-loc or did someone build you a rod rack to
hold 5 - 6 holders?
Saw Darryl Cole Tite-loc setup about 2 yrs ago and it was a 10 set - five on each
side - failed to ask it they were special order.
Might also check with Spyder Loc - Gene Johnson to see if they have a
5 rod set up....

If this was directed to me, I use combinations of single and double jigs. No crankbaits at all. If any weeds are present and 2 people fishing I run only singles, any weed will change the trail of the baits and cause tangles real quick. I keep my baits running pretty even as best I can, trying to simulate a broken school of shad coming by. Usually do not get many tangles from fish as they tend to pull back and rise up above the others, unless multiples on and drag them a a bit. Biggest majority of my tangles come from weeds or getting shallow and dragging bottom in a turn. On a cast that lands way off mark from wind or something I hold the rod tip high and above where I want the line to run for a few seconds until it comes back in line.
Harold,
Those are 4 rod rod holders. I have three of them up front almost fully loaded.
This longlining thing is still new to me and I am in the experimental/learning stage. I've been doing a lot of reading on it and trying to figure out what works best for me. Have run 4 8' rods, 2 12' rods and 2 14' rods with all lines running the same distance behind the boat. Single and double rigged. Lines do get crossed but not too many tangles with a speck on the line. As you can tell, i'm a spider rigger but this longlining thing has really got me hooked! I was hooked after the first trip.
Lot of the guides will long-line their customers -
rods/ / boat everything is always moving -
something of action keeps the mind alert.
People like to catch fish - action - plenty when long-ling (makes for fun experience)
To me the quality of fish is taken by spider rigging - locating the hole / contour
direction they are feeding from - brush piles included (direction into brush pile,
not over top, sometimes just moving into brush pile and turning out left or right
will trigger whats in it - this could be as far as 65 - 70' from pile)
Spider method is very slow and methodical - patience is name of game but does
produce the quality fish.
Have worked with planer boards off side of boat - time consuming but fun,
have worked with 3 rods off each side of boat from bow position or mounting
rod holders partially down side of boat, than working 6 rods off end of boat =
various rod lengths and varying the amount of line out.
Have worked lipless crank baits, double jig set ups (16th - 32nd) and at times
prefished with triple jig set ups - 16th - 32nd & 48th using mostly sliders and
chopped off curley tails....
All work - at various times and produce depending on time spent appling the
techniche.
For years have tried to refine the best approach each and every time out...
The best answer to date is: run and do what you feel most comfortable at doing.
What ever you have the most confidence in - use it -sometimes its more mental
than physical in fishing.
Alway like to see what others are doing-how their presentation works............
Expands my relm of knowledge.
Apology for soap box answer - just started rambling.
