Default Old River @ Texico Town 8/31/15

Pap Paw(thats what my grandchildren call him, he is my father-in-law) and I went to Old River Monday morning. Catahoula Lake is being drawn down so the water is falling 6 inches per day. We had a very good day. Took some pics of the Cypress Trees for PaPa Gene since I read where he likes those old Cypress. We ended up with 68 Crappie in the cooler. Fished in 5 feet of water about 3 Feet deep. It is hard to land a good size Crappie on a 12 foot pole with only 3 feet of line out. LOL!!! Jigs used were Lights Out, Black Gum, Threadfin Shad, and Popsickle.

Very good trip Maxwell, I love the pictures. Does the water rise to cover those roots in the Spring. If so, bingo, great spawning place.

Nice catch Bro Maxwell. Those kind of days don't come along that often for us regular folk.

Yes Sir, the water was up there till just a few weeks ago. You can see the water line on the trees where it normally stays. Catahoula Lake is full all year accept for the few months before Duck Season. Usually they draw the water slow but because of all the high water we had this year they could not get rid of it till now. They drain the lake so the Chufa Grass can grow for the ducks to eat. When the grass gets up they will close the locks and flood the lake and once again all those Cypress roots will be covered.
