4-5 years ago, I would have told you that I'm not a "cat person"....I prefer dogs, and always have. But we lost my long time buddy (14 yr old German Shepherd), and went without pets until we took in a stray puppy...and a year later, took in a stray kitten. The dog was SOOO hyper and barked CONSTANTLY when outside..chewed up stuff...ran off any chance he could....and the cat was super sweet, barely made a sound and was litterbox trained.....it changed me a little, and now I'm sort of attached to the 2 cats we have, and didn't mind letting the dog stay with my mother-in-law. I don't really know that I'm more of a cat vs dog person now, but I can say that cats are a lot less work most of the time.
I agree Cappy...they must have been pretty desperate to get off the island. They clearly recognized humans as care-givers.
That's excellent, thanks for posting. Ann and I had a cat that lived to 16 years of age. Buried in the back here. The labs we have are truly devoted to their people, highly intelligent, and constantly want attention - which we enjoy. They understand what we say to them. When I get home after work, they bring me their neon green balls to throw for a while and fetch until I say "take a break." I'd rescue those kitties in a heartbeat. There are so many folks who don't have pets who haven't a clue what they're missing.

My last dog died about 18 years ago.....I was moping around grieving and this calico cat showed up rubbing on my legs....I fed her and she stayed with me for 15 years..... when she died ,I replaced her with two kittens.....and I still have two cats today....love them.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Great post Scott! I was amazed at how well they can swim, knowing that most cats DONT like water! Thanks for posting.

SMILE- A curve that can set a lot of things straight!
One of ours actually enjoys bathing, and the other tolerates it fairly well. We had a third one for a little while (before we found another home for her), that would take off running if you turned on the water. She would stand there and whine while you bathed her, but you had to catch her first to get her in the sink. She was maybe 2 months old, so still just a teeny thing. The oldest (we've had since he had just opened his eyes), used to climb in the shower with my son, and will still go in after us and play in the water on the bottom of the tub. Seems to be some varying opinions among cats on how much they'll tolerate the water.I'm glad we can wash our, as their tongues just won't get the job done!
