    Default Good day at HYco...

Very seldom do I get to spend an entire day ay Hyco buy Sunday was different. On the lake from 9: 30 -5:00. Started out in the main channel and caught half dozen and then the weekend crowds woke up and got busy. I retreated up one of the creeks and found some quiet water. Stayed in there all day and thoroughly searched and fished my chosen area. Sometimes as anglers I think we run and gun too much without covering an area more closely. I had confidence fish were there but just had to find them. The morning bite was lite and I had to finesse them with a minnow jig combo to get bit. Even still there were fish in the school that was not interested, the slick calm conditions had them on slow mo. Around 4:00 the bite turned on like flipping a switch and it was a fish every cast. Hot bait was a 2" gulp minnow natural color on 1/16 jig head. Guessing I caught 40+ and kept a limit with average size 11". Also caught a 23" big old momma bass that fought almost to her death. Took a long time to get her revived and swimming again. Great day on the water...nice to see cooler weather. FB

That's what it takes, staying with it, they will bite sometime during the day, you have to be there at the right time.

What a great way to end the day. I have heard people say they have had luck fishing from the bank on this lake. I have tried the bridge at the marina but didn't have any luck. Do you or anyone else know of a public access place to bank fish this lake?

Fon...The bridges are good at times especially during cold weather. The marina bridge during winter months holds tons of crappie and white bass...lot of fish caught there. Osmond road bridge and Concord Church road bridge can be hot also. Parking and walking some distance is required ...good luck.

Thanks FB. I will look give those a try. My son and I purchased a pass last summer but between the ski boats terrorizing my aluminum boat with three foot waves and the no fishing in a no wake zone from a boat. I gave up using the boat.
Always wanted to try it again but maybe from the bank. Thanks again.

Some people don't like fishing with me because I'll do just that... persist. It seems some people wanna boat ride all day looking for an easy bite. If I see fish, have caught fish there at a certain time of year, or even just have a gut feeling that there are fish in an area I will beat it to death until they bite. Sometimes to a fault, I guess. But I very rarely come home empty handed or regretting a call I made on the water. Anyways, good job sticking with em!!
