Congratulations to you both on a good day of fishing. I hope y'all went to is it the stumphole where that restaurant looks over the lake to finish up the day. The last time I was there they had good food. Thanks Tim and Ray for the report and pics.

Mark, we put in at Popular Creek. We did not make it by Stumphole, but I've had many of Dave and Dee's breakfasts and Dave's Moms pies are to die for(or from). They have done a good job running the store and are really nice folks. I have bought a whole pie and brought it home to enjoy.

What a great report with some awesome pictures!! It looks like you two had a great day on the water.

With the new addition to the family I haven't had the time to fish this summer like past years, but I love single poling in the summer heat. I've always found that some of the shallowest, most unsuspecting, structure will hold crappie in the dog days of the summer. And you are right, there's nothing like feeling that thump!

That's an interesting tid bit on the braided line. I use braid on all my jig poles but I tie a fluorocarbon leader on. I love the braid for the added sensitivity and the fluoro has less stretch than mono. I used to use mono exclusively but switched over a few years back. I can say first hand that I've seen line type and size make big differences in a days fishing.

If the stars line up properly I plan to be on the water this coming Saturday morning. It'll be the first time in nearly two months my boat has seen water other than a few sprinkles of rain. I believe in going to reline a pole with mono just to see what difference it makes.

What pound test do you use Ink? I used to use 4 lb when I fished mono on the jig pole.
Hooking up every chance I get!

Derek, I think it had more to do with who was holding the pole than the type line that was on it.

Ray you can be quite the comedian at times. Derek, I use 8 pound test the majority of the time. I really have taken a liking to Vanish. When fishing heavy vegetation, or when the big fish are real shallow in the spring, I use 20 pound braid so I can hoss the fish up and out of the cover without fear of breaking my line. I haven't seen any reduction in bites due to braid. Of coarse, the water is usually somewhat stained early in the year.
