Here is a post I copied from (I don't remember) about fishing old river and water levels.....
"Welcome to the board. I fish Old River religiously when I have the chance. Go to this site: Lower Mississippi River Basin Forecast - River Watch
to watch the river stages. When the Mississippi River is above 15 ft in Baton Rouge and rising, the fish DO NOT bite. When it is above 15 ft and falling the best stage is 22-28 ft. You can find sacs in the button woods on the north bank across from the main landing all the way to Aligator Point. When the MS River is below 15 ft try fishing rafts and piers in 15+ ft of water in the middle of the day. Early in the morning you might be able to find them in 10 ft of water at the ends of piers. A lot of people also troll when the water is low around Willow Point. I always use shiners except when trolling."

Hey PS,
Thanks for posting that.
Looks like my 25' is right in the sweet spot according to your saved post.
Ephesians 1:13
Looks like something I posted a while back. I used to fish Old River a lot before my 2 boys were born. My favorite times to fish is when the stage is 26-28 feet then again when it gets below 20. The easiest stage to find the fish is when it is below 15 since the dam keeps the MS from affecting the level of Old River. That's when you can find sacs and big bull bream around almost any raft on the river in 20-30 feet of water. Sacs about 15 ft down and bream 3-6. If that doesn't work the catfish almost always bite when tight-lining with night crawlers near alligator point.
