Default Guess we do make an impression

I took my Dad to KY Lake yesterday afternoon. It was the 1st trip he had been able to go with me this year. We had a good time, caught a few fish and got beat up badly from the lake lice. 1st thing, Dad reached over to get his rods ready and said "I need some help here". Yes he did. He had buried a treble hook in his forearm just below his elbow. We were able to push it on thru and I cut the embedded hook off with the side-cutters that now have a permanent place of residence in my boat for that very purpose. A recent photo of BIGBADDAD with a treble buried up in his ankle brought that decision on. I asked Dad if he wanted to go in and he said no. It barely even bled.

This morning I went to Barkley to check out some areas I had marked earlier. I guess my crankbait abilities don't translate well on Barkley for anything but catfish and yellows. Ended up finding a couple of good keepers who committed suicide and jumped on a crank. A thunderstorm was brewing so I got the boat on the trailer earlier than I had planned.

While I was out there, I was trolling a creek channel when a pontoon boat headed into the bay I had just came out of. The guy at the controls turned it back toward my boat and started up along side of me. He asked if I was mrdux? I said I was and he said he wasn't a member here but likes to read the posts I and others put on the forums. He had been out with Rickie (rnvinc) for some electronics training recently. We small talked about the lack of fish for a couple of minutes and he eased off but not before he yelled back "Keep posting your reports, I really like to read them". Sure wasn't going to have anything of substance to report from today's trip.

I got back to the ramp and loaded up. As I was getting my gear ready to travel, a pick-up (black Dodge) pulled up to me and pointed to my Crappie.com decals on the boat and truck. He said "You're mrdux". Yep guilty as charged. He too is not a member but reads the forums often. He said he had learned a bunch about pulling cranks and longlining from our posts, even though he has not set his boat up to do either yet. He also thanked me for my posts and headed out.

I guess we need to watch our Ps and Qs when we are out with our Crappie.com decals on our vehicles and boats. People are noticing and are learning from what is posted whether that was our intention or not.

He is too modest to mention it, but before all that he had to rescue my wife, my dog, and I. She wanted to ride the lake in our deck boat and after about an hour our engine played out. We trolled from smith bay across the lake to cozy cove which took a little while. Gave him a shout out for a ride from the resort back to the dam to get truck and trailer. He dropped what he was doing immediantly and come picked me up. Took me to the truck and off I went back to get wife, dog, and boat. Wouldn't take anything for helping. We very much appreciated the assistance . Thx again Dux.

I know what you guys mean about Doug, MR Dux. He helped me out with a big problem I ran into this spring while I was down at Ky lake. A couple friends from back home, Pa, came down to fish with me for the weekend. I expected them. What I didn't expect was for my brother to call and tell me he was two hours away from me and was coming to fish with me for the weekend. There is no way I can fish four guys in my 16 1/2 ft boat so I called Doug and ask if he had time and room to take one of the guys out with him. He not only took him but he took all of us to an area of the lake I've never fished before in all of my 28 years of coming down there. Both boats caught some nice fish that day. Doug even invited my buddy to fish with him the next morning too so we could all be comfortable. We caught good fish that day in an area of the lake I fish regularly. I can't thank him and quackerstacker enough for helping me out. They helped turn a disaster into a great weekend. Thanks again Doug and Tim. Your generosity is very much appreciated. And thanks also for taking me and my brother red ear fishing on Barkley when we came back the next month.

ENOUGH ALREADY!! I had no intention of making this a pat-on-the-back thread. Friends help friends! Period. Sometimes we make new friends of folks we disagree with.

My point was we may or may not like having folks who aren't members come to this site to gather information. The vast majority of times we never know about it. These two encounters on the same day with folks who expressed their appreciation caught me off guard. I really appreciated them telling me about it.

BTW, after getting home from Barkley and eating lunch with my wife, I headed to KY Lake and it was as bad there as Barkley. Managed to fish several hours on Barkley and never lost a crank. Can't say that about KY Lake. Lost my 2 most productive cranks within 2 minutes of each other. Got to get the airbrush back out. Both were unique patterns I had done during a moment of confusion. Thankfully I do remember what they looked like since I now take pics of my creations so I won't forget.

What's the matter Dux? Got something against the stake beds in Barkley? They not good enough to decorate as Christmas trees?

By looking at the stake beds in Kentucky you would think it was Christmas in July .

I figured enough pats on the back would earn me a few way points on my Helix

I've heard a rumor that Buffalo 13 is going to be giving out a starter pack of way points during his seminar at the shindig. Guess we do make an impression
