Default Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie report 8/07/2015

I went fishing with a friend mid morning to shortly after 2 this afternoon. We fished the lower end of Chickamauga lake and had trouble finding fish. The lower end of the lake has been like the dead sea for us for several months now and I swore that I wouldn't go down there again until next year, but my friend wanted to go, so we did. We caught 6 crappie. 5 of them came out of a bamboo hotel that Dr Phil and I dropped in deep water back in the late winter or fall of last year. The other crappie came off a dock that we were getting ready to leave and the fish tried to commit suicide, but we released all fish today. Grin.

In the first pic, you can clearly tell the difference between a white crappie and a black crappie. We caught these at the same time, so we took the pic to show the difference. Most crappie fishermen know the difference, but just in case a new crappie fisherman doesn't know, the pic will show the difference.

Bobby Garland plastics on 1/16 and 3/32 oz jig heads in the deep water. The bamboo is sitting in 28-30 feet deep and the bamboo itself tops out at the 15 foot mark. The fish were stacked in the upper portion of the cover. Vertical jigging produced the fish. The largest white is 13.5 inches long. Doesn't show on the ruler. I didn't do a good job of framing the shot.

UTC is downtown Chattanooga. About a 10-15 minute drive from the Chickamauga dam, depending on traffic.

Good job DK. Was TVA pulling any water? Is there a website to check on the potential water flow?

Kingfish you an upload an App free for your phone and it lets you know about water levels, flow, time, elevation, average discharge an it will also give you the predicted flow too. App is for all TVA Lakes. once you download app to your phone you just search which lake you want info for. App is listed as TVA LAKE INFO
    hope this helps

Windstone, from utc the boat ramp is less than 5-7 miles. It will be referred to as the River Park area. Safe place to launch boat and fish what the locals call the river park, however this by map is referred to as the Nichajack. Send a PM to Rsimms on here. He is the Best Guide around here and can usually give you some info to help with you trip. He knows all there is to fishing that area. If I can help with any more info feel free to pm me. I got family in Mississippi, and you are gonna love this neck of the woods, and the fishing too!
