My cousins family was in town to visit my Aunt. Got to see them for a bit on Saturday. They were leaving the next morning to head home. This is Braden. He is 12. He never got to meet his grandpa, my uncle. That man was good to me. He took me fishing when I was Braden's age. He let me hold the light and fetch tools when he and my dad worked on things. When I was a little older, he was the kind that said, pick up the tool and do it. It's the only way you will know. My Uncle Paul took me out on Chick Lake and showed me how a big bluegill could not ignore a popping bug on the end of fly line. I never got the hang of fly, but I knew I liked catching fish.
It was late in the day, but when I asked if he would like to go, it was a definite yes. We had 2 hours, he agreed to the boat rules, so off we went.
He was ready.
Big ships are cool.
Thankfully, the fish were right were I hoped.

And, he's behavior was good enough to earn seat at the wheel.

The ship was off loading when we were headed home.

We had fun.
Hardee's was having a cruise in as we stopped.
We had a good time. Thanks Uncle Paul. I still miss you.

That's some good stuff there. Is that the DuPont plant on the river. I spent a long hot summer there in 80 drilling test borings, meanest yellow flies I have ever seen!
That was great Dayton. A neighbor took me out fishing one day as his only son was too busy with the three "G". I was hooked ever since and have never forgot it. Nor will he.

Great post, Dayton. Thanks!![]()
Enjoyed it. Great report and vids. That woody structure always seems to hold fish for you on a couple of your vids. I still have not fished the tidal James for crappie but sure do want to try at some point.
There are a lot of cars that turn heads, but a 57 Chevy Bellair hardtop coup with 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust was the top dog in my high school years and that one in your picture will still turn heads today.![]()

Thanks guys. We had fun.
Yes, Boscoe, that ship is docked at the Dupont James River plant. I remember the first time I got beside a big boat like that, it was awesome. Kids love to watch them unloading.
That spot is a great place when the fish are deep, both summer and winter. I was worried on this one, because the tide was slack high, and you really need moving water to get them to stack in behind those poles.
