I personally, have never put out PVC. But I have placed hundreds of brush piles out. Cutting brush from the banks of the water way you fish is convenient, but not always feasible. If this is possible where you fish, I would use either oak or hickory. Both are hardwoods that last quite a bit of time under water, and draw fish to them quickly. The draw back is the debris left in your boat, they can be quite cumbersome to load and unload as well.

I have used PVC in the past, didn't like it, didn't hold crappie for me. The brush works best, limbs along the bank, put 3 or 4 together and tie a block to it and tie a drink bottle or 2 in the tops of it and let it go! Cane works good, too, but want last but about 2 years.

I have used a lot of PVC for adding cover, some places it works better than other but same goes for brush like hardwood, cane or cedar trees. The more you can add the better chance you have of having some that always are holding some fish in them. What I do like about the PVC is you can make them up in sections and are easy to glue together once on the water.

Pvc work in some places. I got some out and don't get many off of them but it could be location too! Wood is far more better I think. These are on Wylie near the pier. Hard to find though. Never fished these.
