Default Humminbird Greg or anyone help with gps questions on 1199 ci hd si combo

I just bought a new 1199 ci hd si combo. Can't find what suppose to be in the box. I saw where other combos in the past appeared to have external gps puck. Is it worth the money to buy the gps puck with compass? Will it be more accurrate when marking brush ? I have old handheld gps and must be moving and if you turn it takes time for it to line out . If I understand the puck with compass ( heading ) will stay on track better on turns ? These just for 360 or worth spending extra money for navagation and marking spots ? Or maybe the cheaper punk or none at all just use internal on unit ?

    Thanks

I don't have the heading sensor GPS puck..... primarily because I don't want to upgrade the software to the revision that supports it.

In your case, you already have that software. The HS puck will let you know what direction your boat is pointed ..... even sitting perfectly still. It must be installed to keep it away from magnetic interference that would mess up a compass reading....If you buy a 360, one is included.

If you are installing the unit at the console, installing an external GPS would give you the added benefit of more accurate waypoint marking since the further the GPS antenna is located away from the transducer, the more inaccuracy you will introduce when marking a waypoint ......If you are putting it at the bow with a trolling motor mounted transducer, the only added benefit of the HS GPS would be the compass reading.

Correct that the 1199 is internal GPS antenna ...

Nimrod, I bought one of the HS pucks as soon as they came out. Definitely worth the money, as BobB stated above "The HS puck will let you know what direction your boat is pointed ..... even sitting perfectly still" It really helps navigating to a waypoint.

BTW ...the AS GPS HS antenna does NOT eliminate the donut ... The donut will still appear at boat speeds below 0.6mph ...

But the "heading indicator line" will still be visible all the way down to stationary ...

"Course" and "Heading" are 2 completely separate functions of the AS GPS HS antenna ...

"Course" is determined by the Earth's satellites recognizing that the GPS antenna has moved enough between location data samples to actually be boat movement ...

"Heading" is determined by the unit's calculation of the AS GPS HS antenna magnetic compass reading as relating magnetic North of Earth's globe ...

Good point Rickie ..... The boat can be drifting in one direction while pointing in another.

Am I missing something here? On my 1198 with the heading sensor, I never have a donut, but have boat icon even when stationary with the boat symbol pointing in direction that the boat is actually facing. Do not get course direction line until the 0.6mph

You are correct metalworx (I was mistaken)... The boat icon does stay a boat icon even when stationary ...

I loaded a version in my 1197 that would recognize the AS GPS HS antenna just to make sure ...

(It's been a while since I used the AS GPS HS antenna on my 1197) ...
