When I first started researching PB's I was under the impression that the board was suppose to release so you didnt have to fight the board and the fish. I emailed Tommy Skarlis and he said the same thing that you did .... he doesn't worry about the board releasing ... he just reels the board up and unclips the board and lands the fish. You guys are making this way easier than I was!!

I was under the impression that the first clip was to release so you don't have to fight the board? That's a big board to fight lol.

Thanks for the video Jeff those are some nice deer! So when the first clip releases is it much easier to reel in vs keeping them clipped in as Creek suggests? My main issue was getting the flag to react properly. Mine were too stiff or too loose. I see where you have yours so I will give that setting a try. I've only used them twice. The last time out I had six poles out and hadn't caught anything in a while, reeled them in and had fish on 4 out of the 6 poles. Maybe I just need to find some bigger fish to pull the flag harder .

Reeled in 4 that were over 2 pounds this weekend with no problem.

I gotta hunt up my red releases now I like the board to release so I don't fight the board and the way I fish, I may be also dragging cranks on poles out the side, so a released board will come right over top of the other lines with out hanging up.

I experimented with different spring settings till i found the one that made the flag stay up and show little fish bite!! Last time out i found where the bite was and started catching nice crappie .... made a few turns with the boat (important part of the story) and the bite stopped .... hmmm, I thought, caught all the crappie in this spot. started reeling in the boards and baits and had 6 of 8 tangled up with each other .... turning radius is dictated by board spacing. Put the boards back out clean and running and started catching again.

Talking about front clip releasing ... it almost sounds like a personal preference type thing the more I learn .... when a fish bites the crank the fish and crank work their way to the top so they will not get tangled with adjacent lure/board ... I haven't heard much said about the ROD being used ... I use 6'6" med/hev rods ... nothing fancy ... the thing that i like is that when the board is reeled in i can easily reach the board to unclip.
