    Default Mark Twain help?

We are going camping this weekend at MT. We are staying at at and putting in at Ray Behrens. My 10yo son Casey and I are going up Thursday so we can fish Thursday and Friday. I have never fished MT after the spawn. I was wondering if dipping minnows down tree tops is the way to go? Or casting at the bank? Or....any guidance would be awesome!

    thank you,
    Mike

Dipping treetops around major points on the lake does work pretty good I'd also be looking along bluffs and bridge piers as well. Somedays crappie nibbles seemed to help a lot. I would also be trying minners too. That end of the lake can get pretty crowded sometimes. you need to stay away from Ray behrans boat ramp during peak times. lots of pleasure boaters crowd that ramp. It can get frustrating to say the least.

I agree with Greg, stay away from Behrens....... people . Maybe trailer up to 107, trust me, especially with a 10 year old. Might be worth your time to run up to South Fork Resort, spend a little money with Ron/Mary and pick their brain... they won't lie to ya.

As for fishin, follow South Point around, he knows the name of every toad in the puddle.

Now I haven't been to Twain for some time but isn't 107 under water? Last I heard the only ramps open are the high water ramps.

Good point, mongo. The lake is 20ft highand most ramps are closed, and that will make the boat ramps extra stupid. I'm not sure if it would be smarter to drive 20 minutes to wait in line or just wait in line. Be sure go hit the ramp at off hours....

True, but I'm hearing some rumblings that some additional ramps might be opening by the weekend..... unless they get smacked with another round of storms. Lake is sitting at 625 right now and they continue to pull it down.

By the time we got packed up and left, got to camp and set up, got bait, got the boat in the water, & got fishing it was 6pm. I just st pulled up to the first tree sticking out if the water right across from the Ray Behrens ramp. I only stopped here so I could get Casey started and I could get my pole set up.

Before I tied on a hook he had one in the boat. By the time I put showed him how to put on a minnow so he could just donut himself, put a split shot on my pole added a minnow; Casey had #2 in the boat. I though good so we moved to the next tree, in five minutes he had number three. We then left the cove and went to a different cove with more trees. At 7pm we ran out of minnows ( bait shop only had 2 doz left. Between Casey dropping them and poor hook tech they didn't last long) so at 7 we took the boat out and cleaned 8 crappie. Back to the camper where we enjoyed our crappie with sweet potato French fries, and hush puppies!

    It was a Great Day!!!
