We got out on the water about 7 this morning till about noon. Started out drifting but bites were slow. Got out the anchors & dropped in about 60'. Bites were fast but all fish were small. Tried drifting one more time with only a few bites. Moved to the west side & dropped anchors again in 60'. This was the hot spot. We were using cut herrin in 60 to 80'. Most of fish were from 12" to 18". Moved to another spot in 60' with a good many bites.
We missed a lot of fish today fishing on the bottom.
Total for 1/2 day was 60 blue cats.

How much rope do you use in water that deep. I always thought u needed twice the depth' but that is a lot of rope out!

That's a GREAT day Charles.Congrats.
Up front I have about 300' & 150' for the rear. Normally, I don't need but about half but its available if needed in the wind.

Biggers,
Great report. I was out there too. We were trolling with planer boards on west side also. We caught some nice fish in 20 to 30 FOW. Largest was a 30lber. Brought home 53 fish.

That's a good looking cooler of fish.
When trolling with planner boards, how deep should your bait be running? We were drifting over 100' + water with bait down about 10' under corks. Also, I had some down rods at 40' & 60' but didn't get any hits deep. The cats we caught drifting were all on the rods with corks.
Thanks
Since I'm not focusing on deep water fish, my bait is running around 12'. If fish are deeper on the graph, I add 1/16oz or 1/8oz bullet wt. I just do a good cast (approx. 30yds) and clip the board on. I am using a large swivel and bead b/w main line and leader. The boards are great for covering large surface area of water. I'm only focusing on suspended fish. I fish with 8 rods; 4 w/ boards, 2 freelines straight back, and 2 freelines to the side.
