Do it sells scents in a lot of flavors never used it but I've heard good things about it. That's the safest way to add scents.

Has anyone else here on the forum experimented with adding coffee grounds, anise, and garlic salt to their hot plastic mix? If so what have been the results or what have been the dangers of trying that?

I have used salt you can mix it in if you like or after your plastics are made you could put the salt in the bag I have used all kinds of other garlic crawfish and all kinds of other stinky stuff the best thing I've found so far was crappie nibbles do not mix them in hot plastic I wished it we can get a liquid that had their crappie nibble smell and it. there is one other one on the market that I've been using that is in the nibble it is called crappie bait it is sold at Walmart it seems like all the fish really like it we've been catching catfish bluegill and crappie on them with the jig or plastic bait. I have never used coffee grounds make sure if you do that they are absolutely dry out to you what I will try it today to see what happens I'm sure that it would be a bunch a little bumps all through the plastic I will add them when I take the plastic out of the microwave.
Mike.... Check out NOW Foods - the official site of NOW Foods and look for essential oils. I have the anise oil that I mix with plain worm oil at a four to one ratio, four parts worm oil to one part anise oil and in a large (4x7) plastics bag I add one drop when I package the baits. You can go to any pharmacy and buy a one ounce bottle with the eye dropper for a couple bucks and mix the oils in there. I've had the first mix of this oil for two years and am just now looking at mixing up another batch. It goes a super long way and is not expensive when you consider how you mix and use it. I think I paid about seven bucks for the anise oil. The shipping was free. Making your own scent is well worth the effort Mike. And you can claim your scent is hand made by you in advertising too!
I make real small ice plastics and sell them in 2x2" zip locks. This bag size gets three drops of worm oil and oil of the mix. When these baits were first offered at the bait shop where they get sold they were offered with anise scent or plain oil as a choice. Today they all get the anise scent.
Coffee grounds will be used right from the can as they have to be dry. The heat of the plastic at working temp is enough to scorch the oils and found in the coffee and then you'll have to contend will particles of coffee beans in the finished product. Garlic has to be used as an oil, like the anise oil and is available at the same website I just mentioned.
Of all the scents I have tried, the anise essential oil mix I make is the easiest to use and is by far the best for fish production I have seen. Ice fishing sees panfish slipping right up to a bait almost touching it with their nose and studying the bait. Two things will determine if they'll hit: the very minute quivering in the tail action and smell. The anise for some reason does not hustle fish in the other direction even when used on baits that get a wax worm or a spike added for some meat to temp the fish. I have seen garlic scented baits stop fish from hitting even with the live bait added. As soon as the garlic is gone, the fish will begin to hit again. Not so with the anise.
What a wealth of information all of you have given me. I believe in worm oil and anise so i will continue with that. I may still experiment with dry instant coffee but only with the earthtone or dark olive grubs. Thank you all for sharing your information.

Mike I went out and tried coffee grounds in the plastic no problem it makes the whole room smell like coffee I added it in after I got through cooking the plastic it formed up just a little bit but no problem.
I wonder what would happen if you added Kool-Aid to the plastic.

Might Have Something Here
Shot some light brown Ball Grubs using some Folgers tea bag coffee (of course w/o the tea bag) bagged them with a squirt of worm oil adding a pinch of salt.
wouldn't believe the variety of pan fish that took to this bait
billygee
we might have to get G to put one of his denture tablets in the plastic![]()
You will have to use yours Bob....I still have all of my teeth and they are in good shape....still have all of my hair too. Question....If you encapuslate coffee grounds by mixing them in the plastic.....how is the scent going to get out? Will it not be sealed in plastic ?
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
