I tape the bills on all my cranks and use a rotisserie to dry them after epoxy. I hold the bait by the bill while I paint it and use a wire thru the rear hook loop to hang them up between paint coats. I just make sure they are dry before adding any more paint and most of the time allow them to dry several hours/overnight before putting eyes on and coating them with epoxy.

I'm set up to paint a dozen baits at a time and that's what my rotisserie will hold. I can do a dozen baits from start to finish in a couple of hours MINUS drying time.

Glad to help guys. Painting baits is not rocket science but you do have to have the patience of Job when you start.

I don't want anyone to take the fact that I rarely use my ventilation system when shooting acrylics as what somebody else should do. Lots of folks have breathing issues that would warrant them using all the ventilation they can get.

I watched every video on-line for painting baits and read everything I could find along with the lure making forum here.

Yep, I use the philosophy of my ol' buddy Wiskers on my tackle---"When I die, don't let my wife sell my tackle for what I TOLD her I had invested!"

Works for me. BTW, my wife absolutely loves to pull crankbaits for crappie so that helps a bunch. I know lots of folks who find that out once they talk their mates into going for the 1st time.

I would get all the flouresent colors, opaque white also. That good start. Then just look at what ever cranks you like and try match them

I'm big on not only the flours but also the pearls.

I have an advantage in that I have dozens of taxidermy paint colors in both acrylic and lacquers that I can mix to get the look I'm going for.
